Is he tryna play me? ladies and gent HELP PLEASE?

so me and this guy has been so called talkin of and on for like a year now and he says he REALLLY likes me but he doesnt really comunicat with me like that just a text every now and again a phone call if im lucky.. we live in da same town but we dont really see one another like that cuz we go to diff universities.. hes 2 yrs older then me and now he goes to my university for grad school but hes takin online cles... so the other day he come on campus and we took pics and we put them on faceboook but then he put one as his pro pic and i put one as mine as welll then of course people are goin to ask if we are dating but i dnt really kno wat we are doing cuz we dnt talk like that but hes always sayin how much he likes me... and he gets jealous if he sees a pic of me and another boy.... anyway so this girl askes him if i was his girlfrend cuz she saw our profile pictures,,,,,and he replies back to her saying," Naw, she ain't my main squeeze just my buddy. She madd cool... " and that kinda hurt me what should i do??
